Being awarded a place at Leeds College of Music in 2008 has opened up a wide range of opportunities for Jamie to develop himself as a musician. Such as performing in one of the LCM Big Bands, doing countless recordings with other students or teachers, and continually collaborating with different musicians. Jamie has also been studying with leading UK educator Dave Hassell, focusing particularly on how vital ‘touch’ and ‘articulation’ are for the modern drummer. This combined with his methodical approach to practice is allowing Jamie to develop a technique which enables him to express himself freely in any musical situation
Finally, Jamie is a strong believer in the idea that part of a musician’s role is to inspire and help others in the community to realise their musical potential. This is demonstrated by the fact that Jamie has spent over two years working as a volunteer and then as a paid worker for the registered charity Get Sorted Academy of Music. During this time he worked extensively with all types of young people and adults, including those with moderate and severe learning disabilities, helping them to engage with and draw entertainment from the world of music. Jamie has also taught over 100 private students ranging from young children to the elderly and at all times tries to channel his enthusiasm to empower and encourage others.
